CBC2 Canada Live : Pourquoi are we posting this video? Because it's such a catchy, sweet song. You probably know it too, since "Pourquoi" is a bit of a Radio 2 favourite. And the woman behind it, singer-songwriter/bass player Marie-Pierre Arthur, is featured on Canada Live tonight, in a concert recorded in Quebec City.
Among Marie-Pierre's great achievements: she was named Discovery of the Year by Radio-Canada last year. She's also received three ADISQ nominations, and another nomination at the Indie Music Awards for Best Francophone Album.
She also wound up on numerous best-of-the-year lists, including those of major publications like Le Devoir and La Presse. And she's known to duet with guys from 2010 Polaris Music Prize-winning band Karkwa. (Karkwaian Louis-Jean Cormier produced Marie-Pierre Arthur's album.)
But I'd suggest her real achievement lies in writing songs like "Pourquoi". It's from that first, self-titled solo album, which came out last winter. We are standing by, hoping for more...
