MARIE-PIERRE ARTHUR
Looking through the program of this year’s FrancoFolies, I couldn’t help but notice how ubiquitous Marie-Pierre Arthur was going to be. The folk-pop singer, whose self-titled debut recorded with members of Karkwa and Patrick Watson was my favourite franco album of 2009, will be one of the headliners of the Tournée des Francos (L’Astral, June 15), a concert also featuring Albin de la Simone (France) and Sacha Toorop (Belgium). Arthur will then lend support to two truly original local music figures during their respective outdoor shows: Bernard Adamus (Scène Ford, June 17) and Damien Robitaille (Scène Ford, June 18).
You should also check out: The wonderful Mara Tremblay, for whom Arthur used to play bass (L’Astral, June 10-11); the lovely Grenadine, who put out a super-catchy EP last fall (Tente slam Pepsi, June 10); and Émilie Proulx, whose melancholy yet trippy brand of folk I never grow tired of (Tente slam Pepsi, June 11).
