Marie-Pierre Arthur
Aux alentours
On this sophomore album, gifted singer-songwriter (and badass bassist) Marie-Pierre Arthur fulfills all the promise she showed on her self-titled debut. We happily get reacquainted with her irresistible voice, engaging lyrics (written in collaboration with Gaële) and catchy melodies while also appreciating the thrillingly inventive instrumentation on display.
This is some top-notch indie-folk, beautifully complemented by touches of quasi-prog rock and Beatlesesque pop. Surrounded by such great musicians as guitarist Olivier Langevin (Galaxie), drummer Robbie Kuster (Patrick Watson) and multi-instrumentalist François Lafontaine (Karkwa), who also produced Aux alentours, Marie-Pierre Arthur delivers an early contender for the best franco release of 2012 title.
